Sheffield is well known for the number and quality of its green spaces, and now two more parks have been awarded the coveted Green Flag status to join the 16 city parks that currently hold this title. This is great news for people looking for dog friendly rentals with handy access to pleasant walks within the city.
SheffNews reports that the latest winners are Pound’s Park, which only opened last year, and Sheffield General Cemetery, which opened in 1836. Pound’s Park is in the city centre and is family oriented, with a climbing boulder and children’s playground.
The General Cemetery in Sharrow is an important area for heritage and wildlife. It has recently been renovated with a £3.8 million conservation and repair programme to restore paths and monuments, and to improve the biodiversity of the site.
Councillor Kurtis Crossland, Chair of the Communities, Parks and Leisure Committee at Sheffield City Council, said: “Sheffield is one of the country’s greenest cities blessed with a range of parks, woodland and countryside. We are incredibly proud of not only the breadth of green space in the city, but also of the quality of these spaces.”
He added: “I am delighted to hear that two more Sheffield parks have been recognised for their excellence and will join the list of the best parks in the UK. This is an incredible achievement and is testament to our Parks and Countryside Team, as well as the many volunteers across the city, who help to maintain our greenspaces to such a high standard.”
The Green Flag Award is an internationally recognised scheme to set high standards for well-managed and accessible green spaces.
