Now that the weather’s starting to warm up a tad and the days are getting longer, we can all start thinking about coming out of hibernation, shedding our winter coats and feeling the springtime sunshine on our skin once again.

If you happen to find yourself happily ensconced in the finest accommodation Sheffield has to offer at this time of year, then you’re very much in luck!

Every March, the township comes together to celebrate its solid reputation as The Outdoor City, so called because it’s one of the greenest urban centres to be found in Europe and has the Peak District National Park right on its veritable doorstep.

Over 60 per cent of the city is made up of lovely green space, so if you’re after a city break but want a touch of country at the same time, Sheffield is the spot for you. Aside from the Peak District just over the road, you’ve also got your pick of 250 parks to explore, as well as countless gardens and beautiful woodland, so it really is the best of both worlds.

Next month, the Festival of the Outdoors is putting on its annual celebratory event, with all sorts of different goings-on taking place over the course of the four weeks. Think outdoor film festivals, outdoor markets, walking tours, large-scale sporting events, community affairs… the list goes on and on!

One of the highlights this year has to be Pollen Market on March 17th, held in the green corridor Grey to Green in Castlegate, featuring live music, skateboard jams, canoe taster sessions, arts and crafts, street food galore and much more besides.

Alternatively, you could go stand-up paddle boarding at the historic Victoria Quays, go on a musical audio walk, go orienteering around Kelham Island, watch elite boulderers showcase their skills at the Climbing Works, go forest bathing at Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet… Sheffield really is your oyster this year!

Which event will go at the top of your to-do list?
